The Parasites formed in the late summer of 1978. The band were Jackie MacAllister vocals, Paul Maguire guitar, John Mulvenna guitar, Deirdre Mcallea bass and Stephen “Nuggy” Nugent on drums. The band’s five minutes of fame came when they were filmed at Andersonstown Youth Club in December 1978 by John T Davis for his PuNk movie Shellshock Rock (see below)

The Parasites only played a handful of gigs during their short existence which included a memorable support slot to Protex at Cosmos Youth Club in 1979. Before splitting the band did however record their song ‘”Society” at Wizard studios in Belfast. This track remains unreleased although it did get an airing at the time on the Dave Fanning radio show. The band called it a day soon after due to a lack of musical ability. Sadly singer Jackie MacAllister passed away a couple of years ago.
