Witching Hour were a Newtownabbey based goth/rock/post punk band heavily influenced by The Bauhaus, Killing Joke and The Clash. The four piece formed in 1982 and were Paul Welsh vocals, Ian Carlisle guitar, Joe Goudie bass (previously Tarot XIII) and Dave Slinger (R.I.P) drums. The band gigged regularly in some of the then "in" alternative haunts in Belfast such as Jules and The Orpheus with 'Hades Whores' (a mix of the Outcasts & The Lunatic Fringe). Lavery's, The Errigle, most of the Universities big events and quite a few open air festivals and clubs around the Province. Witching hour's music was dark & heavy with Mick Ronson influenced guitar solos, driving bass and tribal drums. Their original compositions included songs such as  After the End, Burnin' Kisses, Witching Hour and they performed covers such as Bowie's Moonage Daydream and Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus.

The height of the bands career was a doomed tour of Scandinavia organised and funded by 'The Rock Club' in Norway, the bands short existence ended with the near fatal motorcycle accident involving their bass player and co-songwriter Joe Goudie in 1985.
