DAMAGE

Damage were a three piece who hailed from Strathfoyle, which is approximately 5 miles outside Derry City. The band got together in the early 1980's. The band were Noel Broadbent (Bass guitar and Lead Vocals) , Terence (Terry) Doherty (Lead Guitar) and David (Dee) Jenkins on drums. Their live set consisted of original material such as 'Bed Of Roses', 'Mixed Up Shook Up ' & 'Fuck Off' and a few choice covers by artists such as The Undertones, The Moondogs, Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols and The Jam. Dee remembers "We mainly played in the Strathfoyle area, but Noel's cousin and friend of the band Ian Cunningham (RIP) did manage to get us a support slot with Punk Legends The Rip Offs at La Cave bar which would be our debut gig in Derry City. Legendary Punk, Mickey Griffiths was on drums that night with the Rip Offs and blew me away with his unique hard-hitting style which I adopted into mine straight away".

In May 1982 Damage recorded a 4-track demo at Magee University recording studio. With Jim Nicel and Connie Taylor (Drummer with Fremonte) at the desk The band then posted the cassette tape demo to all major and indie record companies they could think of, in the hope of getting some interest back. Dee takes up the story "In the main it was the "Dear John" type letter that we received from them. But we did receive a signed letter back from Paul Weller who at the time had just set up his Respond Records Label and had liked what he heard but stated that we were not just ready to be signed and encouraged us to write more material". Despite this setback the band kept gigging for a few years but eventually the band fizzled out with its members moving onto other musical projects including Fallon, Texas Radio and The Splendid Fall.

On the 19th May 2023 the band's guitarist Terry Doherty passed away suddenly at his home in Derry. He was 58 years old. Dee again "Terry lived for the band at the time and was a big fan of all that was happening in the Derry and the wider Punk scene. He was well liked by all those who met him over the years and is still fondly remembered as the great guitarist he was with Damage".Dee Jenkins, together with Pete Hamilton (Suspect Device) have been running an annual charity event, Punk Rockers Reunion at Sandinos Bar in Derry for the past 2 years. Damage reformed and played at both of these events under the name Damaged, on 25th May 2024 and on 24th May 2025. Original members Noel and Dee were joined by Johanna Fegan (aka Boa Chitta) on vocals and Kieran Boyle on guitar. All proceeds raised at both events went to Foyle Down Syndrome Trust.
